Children from three Central Oregon elementary schools are literally on the move this month. It’s all part of the “Safe Routes to School Program” launched by “Healthy Active Central Oregon” and “Commute Options.” Students from Juniper Elementary are participating in a “Walking School Bus” every Thursday in May. Approximately 500 Bear Creek Elementary students are walking laps around their track, and High Lakes Elementary hosts “Walk to School Week” all next week. Commute Options says the idea is to get kids moving in an effort to reduce childhood obesity and increase their overall health.
