Recreation Danger
Postedpaulvalle on
Hot sun and rapid snowmelt could mean trouble for outdoor recreationalists in Central Oregon this weekend.
-by Kathy Cullis

This weekend is supposed to be a hot one and that will mean plenty of folks literally heading for the hills for some long-awaited outdoor recreation. But Viriginia Gibbons with the Ochoco National Forest says the sudden hot weather could mean trouble for recreationalists. For example, she says you could cross a stream in the morning and then not be able to get back across in the afternoon due to rapid snowmelt. Or, a road frozen over in the morning could be nothing but mud or slush in the afternoon and you could get stuck. Gibbons says, plan ahead, and don't venture too far into the wilderness in unstable weather conditions, even in warmer weather.
