Middle and High School students from Bend, Redmond and Sisters will be joining their peers from all around Oregon State next month to experience democracy in action. They will be participating in the “Mock Election” which is an annual event sponsored by the Oregon League of Women Voters. League spokesperson Krista Horning explains that this is a six-week learning experience in how candidates are chosen and how initiatives are placed on a ballot. This will culminate in the students casting votes in a mock election at the end of October.
Students and schools wishing to participate need to register by October 1st. More information and a link to a student blog is available on line at www.lwvor.org.
