Monthly meeting of the Central Oregon Writers Guild with guest speaker George Byron Wright.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Paty Jager- 548-6455 Redmond, OR , October 16, 2008- Oregon novelist George Byron Wright will speak to the Central Oregon Writers Guild (COWG) Thursday, November 20, 6:30 P.M., at the Redmond Branch Public Library, 827 SW Deschutes Avenue, Redmond. His topic will be, “The Art & Grit of Book Marketing”. Wright, who lives in Portland, is the author of the "Oregon Trio" a group of novels including “Baker City 1948”, “Tillamook 1952” and his latest "Roseburg 1959". The novels are influenced by traumatic events that impacted the towns. The focus of Wright’s presentation to COWG will be how authors can successfully gain acceptance of their books in the marketplace through grit, savvy and a strategic course of action. The meeting is free and open to the public. In 1996, Wright began his odyssey to write novels set in three small Oregon towns in which he spent his grade school years. The journey began when his father became a mortician and moved from town to town in the late forties and early fifties in pursuit of his career. Wright, who had an over 35 year career n the not-for-profit sector, created his own publishing company, C3 Publications, in 1991 to publish professional books in support of his consulting practice, which focused on that field. When faced with the daunting challenge of getting novels published by traditional publishers, he expanded C3 Publications to include his own fiction. Wright’s books will be available for purchase and signing at the COWG meeting. Central Oregon Writers Guild is a group of established and aspiring writers, who meet at 6:30 PM on the fourth Thursday of each month (except for November and December) for a writing-related presentation, refreshments and a critique session. The meeting takes place at the Redmond Library, 827 SW Deschutes, Redmond, Oregon. Visitors and prospective members are welcome. For more information about the meeting or critique groups, call 923-0896. ###
